Measure the clear opening

Measure between the posts at the top, middle and bottom. Record each measurement and note the narrowest point.

Check the opening and swing

Check for changes in ground level and anything that could obstruct the swing. Measure the height available and note which side the gate will hang from.

Allow for the fittings

Compare the gate dimensions with the hinge and latch requirements. The necessary clearance depends on the fittings and the opening. Ask the team to help you check if the measurements are unclear.
